ScanMyRoom — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 14 October 2026

ScanMyRoom is a tool for checking a room for hidden cameras and recording devices. It is built so that the material it handles — pictures of the room you are standing in, the names of devices on the network you are using — never leaves your iPhone.

This policy describes what the app does with that material. It is short because the app does very little with it.

We do not collect anything

ScanMyRoom has no servers. There is no account, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising identifier, no crash reporting service, and no third-party SDK that reports on your use of the app. Nothing you scan, photograph or save is transmitted to us, because there is nowhere for it to be transmitted to.

We therefore hold no personal data about you, and there is nothing for us to sell, share, disclose or hand over.

What stays on your device

Scan results and reports. A completed sweep is saved as a file in the app's Application Support directory, which is private to the app. Reports are marked as excluded from iCloud and iTunes backups. You can delete any report, and its contents go with it.

Detection photographs. When a camera scan marks something, the app may save a small annotated image so you can see what was found and where. These images are stored alongside the report and are never added to your photo library and never synchronised anywhere. They are deleted when you delete their report, and each one can be deleted individually from the gallery.

Two settings. Whether the alert tone and the vibration are switched on. That is the entirety of what the app stores in iOS user defaults.

What the permissions are for

Camera. Used live, on device, to look for the glint a lens reflects back at the flash and for the infrared light night-vision cameras emit. Frames are analysed in memory and discarded. The only frames kept are the detection photographs described above.

Local Network. Used to list the devices on the Wi-Fi network you are already connected to, and to ask their web ports what they are, so cameras streaming over that network can be identified. The app reads what devices publish about themselves. It never attempts to log in to any device and ships no list of default passwords. Addresses and names it reads are used to build the on-screen result and are not sent anywhere.

Bluetooth. Used to list nearby devices that are broadcasting over Bluetooth LE, so cameras advertising themselves can be spotted.

Motion. Used to read the magnetometer, which registers the magnets and motors inside concealed electronics.

Each permission is requested on the screen that explains what it is for, and each scan works or fails on its own — refusing one does not disable the rest.

Plain-language summaries

On iPhones that support Apple Intelligence, ScanMyRoom can rewrite a finished report into plain language using Apple's on-device model. Only the text of the findings is given to the model. Detection photographs are never given to it, and nothing is sent off the device. If the feature is unavailable the report is complete without it.

Subscriptions

ScanMyRoom Plus and ScanMyRoom Business are sold through Apple. Payment, renewal and cancellation are handled entirely by the App Store: we never see your payment details, name or address. The app asks Apple whether a subscription is active and receives only that answer.

Apple's own privacy policy governs the purchase itself.

Sharing a report

If you choose to share a report, you decide where it goes — a message, a note, an email. The app hands the text to the iOS share sheet at that moment and plays no further part. Nothing is shared unless you ask for it.

Children

ScanMyRoom is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone, including children.

Your rights

Because no personal data is collected or held by us, there is nothing to request access to, correct, export or erase from our side. Everything the app has produced is on your device and can be deleted in the app or by deleting the app, which removes all of it.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and a material change will be noted in the app's release notes.
