ScanMyRoom — Terms of Use

Last updated: 14 October 2026

These terms govern your use of the ScanMyRoom app. By using the app you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use the app.

Apple's standard End User License Agreement also applies: https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/

1. What ScanMyRoom is

ScanMyRoom helps you look for hidden cameras and recording devices using the sensors in your iPhone and a guided physical search. It reports what those sensors can and cannot establish, and grades every technique by how much it can actually be trusted.

2. What ScanMyRoom is not — read this part

The app cannot prove that a room is clean, and it never claims to.

There are devices it is incapable of finding. A camera that records to a memory card and transmits nothing emits no signal any phone sensor can read. A device running on its own hidden network does not appear on the network you are connected to, because iOS does not let any app list nearby Wi-Fi networks. A microphone that only listens has no lens, no emitter and no radio, and no phone sensor of any kind can detect it — this is a matter of physics, not of software quality.

A scan that finds nothing means the scans found nothing. It does not mean there is nothing there.

Accordingly, ScanMyRoom is provided as is and as available, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or non-infringement. It is not a substitute for a professional technical surveillance countermeasures sweep, for purpose-built radio-frequency detection equipment, or for law enforcement.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss arising from use of the app, or from any device it did or did not find. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, and some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

3. Reports are records, not certificates

A saved report is a record of what was checked, when, what was found, and explicitly what the check could not cover. It is not a certification that any space is free of surveillance devices, and must not be presented as one.

4. Lawful use

You may use ScanMyRoom only where you are lawfully entitled to do so. It is for checking spaces you occupy or are responsible for — your home, a hotel room you have booked, a rental you are staying in, a workplace you are permitted to inspect.

You may not use it to access, interfere with or attempt to gain entry to networks or devices you have no right to. The app identifies devices; it never attempts to authenticate to them, and you should not either.

5. If you find something

Do not dismantle or unplug it. Photograph it where it sits. If you believe you have been recorded without consent, that is a criminal matter in most countries and the scene is evidence. Nothing in this app is legal advice.

6. Subscription

ScanMyRoom works without payment. Every detection technique in the app — Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, lens reflection, infrared, magnetic field, the physical search checklist and the camera hotspot check — runs in full on the free tier.

ScanMyRoom Plus adds convenience and record-keeping: the guided Full Sweep, saved reports, room-to-room comparison, plain-language summaries, detection photographs, the screen filters and the both-cameras infrared view. ScanMyRoom Business adds a PDF record of each report and your own branding on it, for anyone who checks rooms on behalf of others. Neither tier adds a detection technique.

7. Changes

We may update the app and these terms. Continued use after a change means you accept the revised terms. Material changes are noted in the release notes.
